Southern Spain, the perfect place.
Key Climate Data
Almería, located in southeastern Spain, has a hot, arid Mediterranean climate (Köppen classification: BWh), making it one of the driest and sunniest areas in Europe. Temperatures are mild year-round, and rainfall is scarce.Temperatures:The annual average is around 19°C. Winters are very mild (daytime averages of 16°C), and summers are hot but tempered by the sea, with highs rarely exceeding 35°C.Precipitation: Extremely scarce, averaging just 200 to 250 mm annually and with only about 26 days of rain per year, concentrated mainly in autumn and winter. Sun and Humidity:It enjoys more than 3,000 hours of sunshine per year.Contrasts in temperature and altitude within a 100 kilometer radius.
Extreme Contrast:In general, the province's average temperature varies drastically with increasing altitude, dropping between 0.5°C and 0.6°C for every 100 meters of ascent. The highest municipality is Bayárcal (in La Alpujarra, at 1,258 m), which has a much cooler and more humid climate compared to the coast. On a single day, Almería can experience a temperature range of nearly 30°C between its frozen peaks and the sunny coastline.High Mountain (above 1,200 m): Areas such as the Sierra de los Filabres (Calar Alto Observatory, at 2,168 m)Tabernas Desert
The Tabernas Desert is a desert located in the province of Almería, Andalusia (Spain), within the municipalities of Tabernas, Gádor, Santa Cruz de Marchena, Alboloduy, and Gérgal, and is protected as a natural area covering 280 km². It is classified as the only true desert in Europe, since the rest are considered semi-desert areas. The climate in the Tabernas Desert ranges from semi-arid to Mediterranean and even cool temperate. Its location between the Sierra de los Filabres to the north and the Sierra Alhamilla to the southeast isolates it from the humid currents of the nearby Mediterranean Sea, in an area of low rainfall such as the Levante region of the Iberian Peninsula. In the Tabernas Desert, the average annual temperature is about 17.9 °C.[3] Monthly averages range from 9 °C in January to 24.5 °C in August.[3] Winter temperatures rarely fall below freezing at night, while during the summer, absolute maximum temperatures can exceed 45 °C and approach 50 °C in the shade on the most extreme days. Average annual rainfall is slightly above 200 mm, with only one-third falling during the warm season (May to October). The average annual sunshine is approximately 3,000 hours.
